Amy Cole Ahmed
Founder/Director

Amy Cole Ahmed is a former professional ballerina who first trained in New Jersey at the Irine Fokine School of Ballet and then with Leonid Kozlov, formerly of the New York City Ballet. She was invited to join the Alabama Ballet’s apprenticeship program during its inaugural year and was promoted to the company two years later. 

​Ms. Cole has performed soloist roles in Don Quixote, Dracula, Swan Lake, Divertimento #15, and Serenade as well as the principal roles of Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, Dew Drop Fairy in Roger Van Fleteren’s The Nutcracker, Queen of the Dryads and Mercedes in Don Quixote, Dew Drop and Hot Chocolate in Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, and Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. Ms. Cole spent the 2003–2004 season touring nationally with the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, a project of the Kennedy Center, where she had the opportunity to perform an exclusively Balanchine repertoire, including Tempo de Valse and Stars and Stripes. 


Ms. Cole received teacher training certification through the Alabama Ballet Center for Dance Education and subsequently taught in the school. In Tuscaloosa, Ms. Cole has taught at two local dance schools, choreographed for the University of Alabama Dance Department, and served as Artistic Director of Tuscaloosa Community Dancers for the 2012-2013 season, mounting two full length ballets at the Bama Theatre. In 2011, Ms. Cole received the Druid Arts Award for Dance Educator and in December 2015 earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Leadership Studies from the University of Alabama.

Cowley Garrett
Instructor Lower Division

Cowley Garrett is a 21 year-old native of Philadelphia, Mississippi. She began dancing at the age of two and has never stopped since. She was accepted as one of four dance majors who auditioned for the Mississippi School of the Arts, located in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Upon graduating from the Mississippi School of the Arts, she decided to further her education and lifelong love of ballet and modern dance at the University of Alabama, where she is currently a senior dance major anticipating graduation in May of 2022. Cowley is also a member of the Dance Honors Society. Upon receiving her BA in Dance, she plans to continue a career involving dance and art therapy while working with children and those with mental or physical disabilities. While gaining hands-on work experience, Cowley also plans to expand her knowledge of dance therapy by earning a Master’s Degree in Dance Therapy.

Sabrina Metcalf
Instructor Lower Division

Sabrina Metcalf is originally from Houston, Texas. She attended Ballet Center of Houston where she danced and trained under the direction of Victoria Vittum De Bethencourt and Barbara LeGault. Sabrina was a company member for seven years and performed ballets such as The Nutcracker, La Sylphide, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere and numerous original works by Victoria Vittum. She attended the University of Alabama and graduated in 2019 with a B.S in Public Health and a Minor in Spanish. After graduating, she worked an internship role with a campus ministry at UA, and during this time married and became the proud mother of her son, Lewis. After a period of caring full-time for Lewis, her love for dance is what led her to begin teaching at Druid City School of Ballet. Her goal is to motivate and encourage young dancers, and she is excited to share her love and passion for dance with her students. Sabrina is thrilled to be a part of the DSCB staff.

Avery Tyer
Instructor Lower Division

Avery Tyer is a senior at the University of Alabama studying dance and psychology. She is from Franklin, Tennessee, where she studied dance at Franklin School of Performing Arts. Avery has been working at Druid City School of Ballet for two and a half years and teaches Creative Movement 3, Pre-Ballet I, and Pre-Ballet II this year. Avery is looking forward to a great year!
